Fun Spring Gardening Ideas for Kids

Ready for some spring gardening ideas for your kids to enjoy? As the weather gets warmer, we all naturally want to head outdoors and play. But it’s also the perfect time to introduce some fun and easy spring gardening ideas to kids. As well as there being the benefit that they’ll maybe eat some of what they grow. Or a possibility some of the weeds will get pulled out. Okay, so that one went too far, but spring is the ideal time to get outside and get gardening

6 Spring Gardening Ideas Kids Will Love

Get those green fingers ready and try out these six great gardening activities with the kids this spring:

  1. Vegetable garden – so we had to start with the most obvious idea; planting a vegetable garden. It’s a great way to teach kids where vegetables come from, plus by getting involved they take ownership and are more likely to eat what they sow – literally! If you haven’t got the space for a large garden, our planter boxes are ideal for keeping on the deck or even the windowsill. Don’t forget to get them their very own set of gardening hand tools!
  2. Bug hunting – pull out that bug magnifying viewer and head out on a bug expedition. From ants to spiders, worms and butterflies, kids find it amazing to see bugs up close and personal.
  3. Build a bug hotel – a little while ago we shared an article on how to build a bug hotel with you, and it remains super popular. If you’ve got a few hours to fill in, it makes a fabulous activity for all the family.
  4. Seed planting – kids love our Seed Kits! But they don’t just need to be planted in the garden. What about making little Lego containers or using jars to plant seeds into?
  5. What do plants need investigation – here let the kids discover what plants need in order to thrive. A bit like a science experiment, they could test different ideas out such as sunlight or water. Our bottle top waterers can help make watering easy, and they’re really fun to use too!
  6. Compost bin – if you haven’t got one already, spring is a great time to build a compost bin. Take the time to teach the kids about what goes into a compost bin, plus what to do with the compost once it is ready too. This would be a great place for them to muck in with their gardening tool set.

We’d love to see photos of you and your kids out in the garden this spring or hear what they’ve been planting. Drop us an email or let us know in the comments below.
