5 Tips On Becoming a Superhero

So, you’re interested in becoming a superhero. Yes, you read that right. I’m talking about you and not your child! Sure, it’s easy enough for them to put on a cape and mask, then run screaming around the room saving the world. But that’s not for you. What you’ve got to do, is become a superhero who can fix every problem under the sun. You think I’m exaggerating? Nope. It’s called being a parent and you’re becoming a superhero by default.

A Parent’s Guide to Becoming a Superhero

I’m not sure if there was any single superhero you resonated with or wanted to be when growing up. Perhaps it was you wanted to climb walls like Spiderman? (Chances are you made your parents do that!). Or did you want to be The Hulk and proudly showed everyone your imaginary arm muscles? Then there was Mr T, the guy who wore the gold chains in the TV show The A-Team. He was a superhero wasn’t he?

However, I digress. What I know for certain is now that you’ve become a parent, you are a superhero in your child’s eyes. You can do no wrong, and you’re the best Mum or Dad in the whole world! Make that the entire universe! In fact, this is even backed up by research where one study found that 55% of kids believed their parents could be a superhero (or villain) in disguise!

Being an experienced superhero myself, I’m fully committed to sharing my top five tips on becoming a superhero with you. So get ready because here they come!

5 Tips On Becoming a Superhero Parent

It’s time to build a bridge and get over it. You’re a superhero now, even if you can’t fly without a plane. To keep up with the superhero image your child sees you as having, here are five helpful tips:

  1. Listen to your child – sure, not everything they say is going to be interesting to you. However, it is to them, so listen to what they have to say!
  2. Read to your child – kids love spending time snuggling up on the couch listening to a book. It’s even better if the story is about a superhero, like in our Me & Dad range!
  3. Play with your child – I know you don’t feel like playing cars for the seventy-ninth time today, but please do. It’s so important to your child that they repeat skills until they master them.
  4. Cheer for your child – everyone needs a cheerleader on the side of life, including your child! Cheer for them during both the good and tough times, showing you’re on their side no matter what!
  5. Hug your child – there will come a day when by just being there, you’ll embarrass your child. Hug them now while you can, to build up that bond of unconditional love. Then start training so you can chase after and hug them in front of their friends when they’re a teenager!

Just in case you’re not convinced that you are a superhero, I thought I’d also share this criterion with you. You are a superhero if you:

  • See everything everywhere
  • You can carry seven bags of shopping while wrestling a toddler
  • Kids look at the sky and scream your name when they want you
  • You wear big comfy underwear

See! I told you that you were a superhero!

  1. I loved this article. We need to remind ourselves that we as parents are heroes every single day. My sister and I started a party business so that we could be there for our children after school. We are the lucky ones. And yes I wear very big underwear haha.
