Top Ideas on Gifts for Tweens

Choosing gifts for tweens is a bit of a fine balance. You want something which isn’t seen as babyish, yet not too ‘adult-like’ and off putting. Notoriously difficult to buy for, tweens also tend to rely upon what their friends think as to whether a gift is ok or not.

To help you parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles out, we’re sharing our best ideas on choosing gifts for tweens.

Choosing Great Gifts for Tweens They’ll Actually Love Getting

In order to choose the right gift, you first need to understand exactly what a tween is. Defined as being a child aged between 9 and 12 years old, a tween isn’t a little kid, but aren’t quite a teenager either. We’re not going to cover the puberty and other changes here, but it would be fair to say that a tween also has a lot on their plate in the growing up department.

To pick the right present for a tween, the same present giving guidelines should be used: consider their interests, what they’ve talked about, things other kids their age do and any hints they’ve been giving out along the way. Here are a few of our suggestions on gifts for tweens:

  • Age-appropriate makeup or clothing – if you’re not the parent, it would be best to consult with them before giving these items.
  • Gift vouchers – save the hassle and let them choose a present themselves!
  • Room décor – from posters to duvet covers, rugs to ornaments, let Pinterest be your guide on ideas on room furnishings here.
  • Craft kits – help your tween develop their creativity and have the satisfaction of creating something themselves. Our upcycled and recycled craft kits and DIY Craft Kids are just the ticket here! Or for an older tween who wants a bigger challenge, our Wooden DIY Miniature Houses would be ideal.
  • Lessons – how about organising a cooking, dance, storytelling, football or other lesson for the tween and a couple of their friends. If you have the ability, you can do this yourself. Otherwise, look for a professional organisation who offers these or call in a favour from a friend.
  • Electrical – we’re putting this in here with some reluctance, but do realise that for many tweens, technology is something they believe they can’t live without. Once again, this is something you should talk with the tween’s parents about first though.
