    Make your own Shampoo Bars

Care for your hair with quality ingredients with our Make Your Own Shampoo Bars DIY Craft Kit.

Shampoo bars are big news and it’s easy to see why.  There’s no waste (or plastic), simple to make and use and they are more concentrated than traditional shampoos so they last much longer.  In fact, this kit is equivalent to 3-4 bottles of liquid shampoo!

Perfect for all the family, especially if your home has more than one bathroom and for travelling.

Our shampoo bar kit includes hair-loving ingredients, suitable for all hair types:

Shea butter moisturizes hair and scalp, reduces scalp irritation and helps prevent breakage.  Citronella oil prevents dandruff, removes head lice and is excellent for general hair health.  Rosemary essential oil promotes hair growth and helps a dry or itchy scalp. Calendula helps remove dandruff and hydrates a dry scalp.

Most store-bought shampoos strip your hair of its natural oils so the almond oil will strengthen damaged hair and adds shine.

The absence of lye in this craft kit means it is safe for children to make too.

    This MakeKit project includes
    • 150g shea butter shampoo base (5% shea butter, lathers well)
    • Shea butter (NZ pure)
    • Rosemary essential oil
    • Citronella oil
    • Almond oil (NZ pure)
    • Dried calendula
    • Easy-to-follow instructions with images

    Difficulty: 3/10

Suitable for: 8+ years to adults (children should be supervised when base/butter are melting).   A silicone mould is needed for holding bars while setting (muffin moulds are ideal).

You can make these in: 30 minutes (+ setting time)

How do Arts and Crafts Benefit Children

When creating an arts and crafts project, children are able to develop their fine motor skills. Handling safety scissors to cut straight lines, filling in a set section in a coloring book, even properly drawing a circle are great ways for your child to master control of their motor skills.

Art also allows for your child to expand their essential vocabulary. They’ll learn the names of different shapes, colors, and materials without it seeming like a chore. These skills carry over into a multitude of other activities and will be especially important in giving your child a head start in school.

Perhaps one of the most important benefits that arts and crafts give your child is the chance for him or her to be creative.
